 Carlos Muñoz (S’80) was born in Madrid, Spain, on June 11, 1959. He received the Telecommunication Engineering degree (with honors) in 1982 from the E.T.S.I. Telecomunicación, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).

Since 1977, he has been affiliated with the E.T.S.I. Telecomunicación, first at the Physics Laboratory and, since 1981, at the Image Processing Group (GTI) within the Department of Systems.

His current research interests include image coding and control theory.
