Projects 

The research activity is supported by the Spanish National Research Programme, the European Framework Programme, and by direct contracts with Spanish and European companies. As a brief summary of past and present key projects, GTI:

- is a key partner of VISION, the largest research project on video communications sponsored by the Spanish Administration under the competitive Cénit Programme.

- has recently completed its participation in the IST projects SUIT (Scalable, Ultra-Fast and Interoperable Interactive Television), I-Way (Intelligent co-operative system in cars for road safety), OLGA (A Unified Scalable Framework for On-line Gaming) and SLIM-VRT (Self Learning Integrated Methodology - Virtual Reality Tool).

- is a partner of I3media, the largest research project on media production sponsored by the Spanish Administration under the competitive Cénit Programme.

- is involved in several projects related to IPTV sponsored by the Spanish Administration under the Profit and Avanza Programmes.

- has an active contract research activity with Spanish and European companies, working either on specific topics related to images and video, and on complete systems where video processing is a key element: visual communications, computer vision, and multimedia systems.

- has worked in the IST projects VISIRE (Virtual Image processing System for Intelligent Reconstruction of 3D Environments) and ORION (Object Rich Information Network).

- has worked in the successful ACTS projects MOMUSYS (MObile MUltimedia SYStems), which was the European platform for MPEG-4, and HYPERMEDIA (Continuous audiovisual digital market in Europe), which gave support to the development of the MPEG-7 standard.

- has worked in the three successful forerunner Eureka projects related to TV and HDTV: Eu-95, Eu-256, and Eu-625, where Eu-95 was the spark of European HDTV, EU-256 achieved the first digital transmissions of TV and HDTV (World Football Championship Italia 90), and Eu-625 was the European platform for MPEG-2.
