The IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE 2018)

The IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE 2018) is the annual flagship conference of the IEEE Consumer Electronics (CE) Society. ICCE 2018, held in Las Vegas from the 12th till the 14th of January 2018, is the established forum for innovative research in all areas of consumer electronics and is co-located with the CTA’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is the world’s largest consumer electronics trade-conference.

Video-related technical tracks of ICCE 2018 covered:

- Audio, Music and Video Systems, and Cameras and Acquisition (AVS).

- Entertainment, Gaming, and Virtual and Augmented Reality (EGV).

- Digital Experience (DEX) - Deep Learning for Robotics & Computer Vision Applications (DL).

- AR&VR Display and Human Interface Technologies for Automobile (AVA).

- Smartphone and Mobile Device Technologies (MDT).

- Drones as Evolved Smart Multi-Sensor Networks (DSN).

Among the techniques presented for immersive experiences within Entertainment, Gaming, and Virtual and Augmented Reality, Narciso García, member of the Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes of the UPM, presented the contribution "Viability analysis of content preparation configurations to deliver 360VR video via MPEG-DASH technology". This work aims at a transmission bitrate reduction through a straightforward, yet effective, modification of the 360 degree video content presented to the user and a fine-tuned reception buffer control implementation. It has been done within projects MR-UHDTV, IVME, and MONALIS in collaboration with Nokia Bell Labs.
