Linking measurable data to subjective evaluations: towards the definition of objective metrics for QoE assessment in immersive media

On March 19, 2025, the Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes (GTI) successfully held the second seminar of the “Speaking in the Key of Science” series, an event that continues to establish itself as a benchmark in the exploration of the latest advancements in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Extended Reality (XR), and other emerging fields.

The seminar, titled "Linking measurable data to subjective evaluations: towards the definition of objective metrics for QoE assessment in immersive media", was delivered by the renowned researcher Anna Ferrarotti in Room B-223, Building B, ETS de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

During the session, the complexity of the Quality of Experience (QoE) concept in immersive systems was addressed, analyzing how subjective evaluations can be translated into objective, data-driven metrics. In particular, the relationship between these evaluations and measurable behavioral data was explored, with a special focus on spatial movement analysis.

Ferrarotti’s presentation sparked a rich debate among attendees, who highlighted the relevance of the topic and the clarity of her explanations.

The event also offered the possibility of obtaining a certificate of attendance, which attracted numerous participants interested in documenting their training in this growing research field.

With this seminar, the GTI reaffirms its commitment to scientific dissemination and the promotion of knowledge in innovative technologies. The “Speaking in the Key of Science” series will continue to provide more opportunities for learning and discussion about the latest advancements in technological research.
